Entry-level opportunity in information design and research management

Lushomo is a data, design and communications agency, working with international organisations, often in areas of health, environment, education, gender equality and economic development. Our aim is to help our partners to “do good with data” by turning their complex information into accessible, beautiful and shareable products.

Our team of 20 works remotely and in-office, mostly in South Africa and around Europe. Joining us means becoming part of a flexible online team and having the opportunity to do rewarding work with international organizations such as the OECD, WHO and other UN organisations.

This opportunity calls for someone with traditional project management skills such as planning, delegating and delivering to tight timelines and budgets. A blend of creativity and technical know-how will stand you in good stead, as will being organised, quick to learn and working well under pressure

A big part of the role involves reading, digesting and distilling technical content into creative and impactful visual products, such as data visualisations, infographics and animations. This process also involves briefing and collaborating with designers and developers.  It is therefore important that you have an interest in design and enjoy working in an iterative, unpredictable process, but within a set timeline and budget.

Candidate requirements

• Candidates must either have completed a Master’s degree or be in the process of doing so, ideally in areas of public health, development, communications or another relevant field
• Be an adaptable team player and enjoy working in a collaborative environment
• Be able to simply and effectively communicate data and concepts
• Have a good understanding of numbers, graphs and statistics
• Be creative, with an interest in design
• Have excellent writing and communication abilities in English
• Have an eye for detail and excellent coordination and organisational skills.

Beneficial

• Previous experience working in visual design, media or another communications-related field.
• Knowledge of Adobe suite, GIS, Tableau, PowerBI or other design or data visualisation software. 
• Exposure to any of a range of technical skills, including data analysis, coding/development (front- or back-end), graphic design, video production, photography, etc.
• Language skills, particularly in any of the 5 UN languages other than English.
