The background

Climate change poses immediate and long-term threats to human health and survival across the world. Nowhere is this anticipated to have a greater impact than in Africa, where social, political, environmental and economic conditions are already fragile. Clim-HEALTH Africa is an international network which aims to strengthen the resilience of African countries and communities against the impact of climate change on public health.

The brief

To provide communication support to this regional network of the project partners, including African and international institutions, the UN, academic, governmental and intergovernmental institutions and national and international NGOs.

Our response

Our partnership with Clim-HEALTH Africa started in 2015. It has involved the development and ongoing management of a project website, technical expertise and the creation of various communication products for the network.

Infographics
We first developed infographics showing the status of climate change and health in Africa.

This partnership began with the development of infographics on the status of climate change and health in Africa.

Publication
We then wrote and designed the Second Synthesis Report on the Situation Analysis and Needs Assessments for the Implementation of the Libreville Declaration on Health and Environment in Africa. This involved the analysis of 34 African countries’ data on challenges and change in relation to environmental determinants of health. Following these initial interactions, Lushomo became the communication partner for the Clim-HEALTH Africa network.

Website
Lushomo developed and continues to maintain the Clim-HEALTH Africa website. This work includes the development of regular news and dedicated country pages which show the status of climate and health action in key countries.

This partnership has involved the development and continual update of the Clim-Health Africa website. This includes the development of regular news items and dedicated country pages showing the status of climate and health action in key countries.
Based on a draft report received from WHO-AFRO, as well as access to raw survey data, Lushomo produced a report with data visualisations and infographics to highlight country progress on implementing the Libreville Declaration. The report and the results that is showcased were used to inform deliberations at the conference, that led to the development of the new strategic action plan.

Newsletters
We manage the Clim-HEALTH Africa newsletters. We develop the content together with our clients and ensure that it is packaged in a way that is easy to digest.

Animation
In addition to creating posters and banners for high-level meetins like COP/CMP, we also created these animations.
