Branding and event assets for the 2024 WHO Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources (EIOS) Global Technical Meeting

Led by WHO, the Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources (EIOS) initiative is designed to enhance the early detection, verification and response to health threats through the use of open-source data. The initiative brings together a network of countries, organisations and researchers to strengthen public health intelligence and improve outbreak detection.

The brief

In 2024, the annual EIOS Global Technical Meeting (GTM) took place from 10—12 December in Dakar, Senegal, under the theme The Dawn of a New Era for Public Health Intelligence. Lushomo was engaged to provide communication and visibility support for the event. This included the development of a new brand identity and a full suite of digital and print materials used before, during and after the GTM.

Our approach

We started by exploring design concepts that would simultaneously reflect the event location, the broader EIOS identity and the network/ connections that the initiative aims to create. Drawing inspiration from Senegalese and West African motifs, and the existing black and yellow EIOS logo, we developed a brand identity that was strong, simple and versatile in its use across the broad range of products required.

Visual language

A high-contrast colour palette of black, green, red and yellow forms the basis for a West-African inspired pattern that works equally well on anything from a large-scale stage backdrop to a detailed report, and even a branded event tote bag.

The deliverables

The extensive list of communication products includes pull-up banners, event stationery, agendas, web banners, speaker presentations, social media assets, a full event report and shorter summary booklet.

The highlights

The 2024 EIOS GTM was attended by around 200 participants from 70 countries. These included members of the EIOS Community of Practice, and experts from academia, technology, philanthropy, and a broad range of sectors.
