UNDP Papua New Guinea Natural Resource Management Hub
The Papua New Guinea (PNG) Natural Resource Management Hub (NRM Hub) is a digital platform designed to support sustainable management of the country's natural resources. Launched in 2022, the Hub serves as a central access point for sharing spatial data, supporting decision-making, and engaging communities in environmental management.
The brief
As part of a multi-year contract, Lushomo was asked to develop a communication strategy, visual identity and communications products for the NRM Hub and affiliated initiatives in PNG. The materials needed to resonate with diverse audiences—from policymakers to community members—while building awareness and supporting UNDP PNG in promoting natural resource management tools across sectors.
Our approach
We started by developing a comprehensive communication strategy driven by audience research and defined communication objectives. Stakeholder interviews and co-design workshops with UNDP PNG were used to identify user needs and shape both strategic and creative directions. This framework guided the creation of a flexible visual identity that was applied across the NRM Hub website, geo sites, the Lukim Gather app, a digital story and a range of supporting materials.
Visual language
Drawing from the natural features and ecological diversity of PNG, the branding uses organic shapes, natural colours, local photography and human-centric illustration. These versatile elements can be effectively combined and adapted for use across multiple products and platforms.
The deliverables
In addition to the overarching branding, we produced materials aligned with the communication strategy, designed to support outreach, engagement and training.
These included reports, posters, presentation templates, infographics, animated explainer videos, case study documents, social media assets and several websites, such as for the NRM Hub, Blue Economy Enterprise Incubation Facilty and Blue Economy digital story.
