Malaria surveillance and elimination online course
The WHO Global Malaria Programme (GMP) has developed data-collection modules within the District Health Information System (DHIS2) to support systematic malaria surveillance data gathering and analysis. To increase effective use of these modules, a multimedia e-learning course was created to equip health professionals with the necessary skills to strengthen malaria surveillance efforts.
The brief
Lushomo's responsibility was to transform DHIS2 malaria surveillance modules into a step-by-step e-learning experience. The course needed to work across varied country contexts, build user confidence in working with DHIS2 tools, and support GMP’s broader goal of strengthening surveillance for malaria elimination.
Our approach
We started by researching appropriate Learning Management Systems and course formats for the target audience. Course content was then structured to guide learners through key DHIS2 malaria module functionalities. In collaboration with technical experts we then developed accurate and engaging learning materials, incorporating interactivity and walkthrough scenarios of the DHIS2 modules.
Visual language
The course design prioritises clarity and ease of reading. Structured layouts, intuitive navigation and bright colours are used to distinguish different programmes within modules. Custom characters guide users through DHIS2 functionalities, following a case-study approach, while video tutorials support comprehension of key concepts.
The deliverables
A self-paced online course featuring interactive learning modules, video tutorials, and animations to support malaria surveillance training.
