Interactive online annual report for the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases’ (TDR)
An engaging and interactive digital experience, created for the WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) to showcase their work during 2023 in supporting global health research to reduce the burden of infectious diseases of poverty.
The brief
Lushomo was asked to design and develop the 2023 TDR annual report, and to transform the static print version into an engaging, online experience. The online report needed to replicate the UX/UI and functionality of the 2022 edition, while incorporating additional multimedia elements and interactive features. The project included support during launch and handover to the TDR team.
Our approach
We began by designing a fully interactive prototype, allowing the team to assess and refine the user journey before development. Key elements included user-centered interface design with appropriate testing and iteration, interactive components such as clickable elements and hover states, mobile-responsive design, and support during the launch.
Visual language
The design uses the bright colours and graphic elements of TDR's brand identity and remains consistent with the look and feel of the print report. Custom navigation tabs, menus and graphics help users move easily between sections.
The deliverables
The fully interactive online report was developed using current front-end technologies and includes multimedia elements such as videos, images, audio clips and clickable data visualisations.
The highlights
This work transforms the traditional annual report into a dynamic, people-centered digital experience—reflecting TDR's innovation in global health research. By integrating multimedia and interactive storytelling, the report ensures that TDR's research impact is not only highlighted, but also felt by its audience.
