UX research for the WHO DHIS2 Training App
Lushomo worked on the design and UX testing of the DHIS2 Training App, an open-source tool enabling users to collect, report, analyse and visualise data for combatting insecticide resistance, a major threat to malaria control. In 2021, it was awarded Best Independent Web App at WHO's DHIS2 Annual Conference.
The brief
In partnership with a development group, Lushomo designed and ran UX testing for the interactive DHIS2 Training App to help users worldwide collect and report insecticide resistance data. The app’s main function is to help countries understand and leverage this data for better decision-making around insecticide resistance.
Our approach
We began with audience research to understand user needs and challenges. This research helped identify specific painpoints for targeted UX solutions. We then developed and tested these solutions, moving through wireframes and interactive prototypes, into user testing and iteration throughout the process.
Visual language
The app uses a clean interface with a blue-based colour scheme and clear iconography to aid navigation. Interactive elements, such as hover states, clickable modules, and pop-ups, improve the user experience. Mobile-responsive layouts ensure accessibility across different devices.
The deliverables
The DHIS2 Training App delivers a comprehensive digital learning experience boosted by peer-to-peer learning. Users can access resources via personalised dashboards and track progress through gamified features. The design includes a community forum where users can discuss exercises, exchange ideas, and receive feedback.
